Steve Balbi played bass in the hit-making Australian band Noiseworks, and was also a member of Electric Hippies along with fellow Noiseworks member Justin Stanley.
Steve first began performing live in a band with his cousins called The Apaches, who performed 'Fox on the Run' on the TV Talent show 'Pot of Gold' in 1976.
He was a voice double in the film Moulin Rouge! as well as the voice of "Magic Carpet Ride" for Network Ten's 2003 station ID. Awards he has received for his work with Noiseworks include three ARIA Double Platinum records and three ARIA Gold records.
In the mid to late 70's, prior to Noiseworks, Steve was the bass guitarist for a blues/funk rock band called Rupert B. He also had a 5 year stint with Kevin Borich.
In 2006 Steve began a new original project - Move Trees - with Scott Aplin, Pete Skelton and Doug Aplin. In 2007 Move Trees joined Noiseworks on the road during their tour.
26 October 2009 saw the latest Solo release from Steve, "I Found You", out on UK label Foundry Records.
He is now fronting, recording and contributing to writing with a reformed Mi-Sex.
Steve composed and produced the new Fox Cricket Theme. Orchestrated by George Ellis and recorded with members of the Sydney Symphony, the Theme promises to become profoundly entrenched within the Australian consciousness, just as the Channel Nine Theme song has been an iconic symbol of the Australian summer for 40 years.
Steve Balbi’s debut solo LP, Black Rainbow (2013), and its subsequent reprise, Rainbow Black (2016), set a profound point of departure for this creative chameleon’s enigmatic artistry, which has led to the manifestation of his new solo LP – Humans – due later this year.
Steve has composed the Themes for ‘The Big Break’ and ‘Cricket Tragic’ programs. A hip hop and rock version of the Test Theme featuring Brett Lee on bass was launched this year.
