Michael Coggins has been a full time professional musician since the completion of his studies at the Jazz Department of the Australian National University in 2004.
Relocating to Sydney, he was soon in demand as a sideman with a diverse range of artists, including Darren Percival, Gervais Koffi & the African Diaspora, and the 10 Guitar Project.
Since 2014, Michael has performed more than 100 shows with award-winning jazz/rock group The Subterraneans, and more than 50 shows with Sonic Mayhem Orchestra.
In May this year the world lost one of its finest guitarists with the passing of Phil Emmanuel.
Phil and his brother Tommy, playing together as the Emmanuel Brothers, had graced stages all over the world with names such as Chet Atkins, Duane Eddy, America, Hank B Marvin, John Farnham, Jimmy Barnes, INXS, Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson.
This video was recorded at the 2008 Tamworth Country Music Festival and highlights Phil’s passion for the instrument, his craft and his dedication for mentoring young emerging guitarists. Phil Emmanuel was awarded an OAM in the 2018 Queen's Birthday honours list.
